About Cupcake A La Mode
"I've loved to bake ever since my first Easy Bake Oven. Almost 30 years later, I can still remember that forced look of eating something delicious on my mother's face as she ate one of my chocolate cakes. I immediately went back to the drawing board that day. I was determined to perfect my Easy Bake chocolate cake so that the next time she took a bite, that blissful look on her face would not have to be forced.... I haven't changed much since then! After many years of confectionery experimentation I believe that I have perfected my cakes."
Cupcake A La Mode is the creation of Lisa Clark, Executive Pastry Chef, and her husband Daniel. Over the past few years, cupcakes have rocketed into the stratosphere as the dessert of choice and Lisa and Daniel have decided to build a cafe around that concept.
Lisa left her full time job as a Customer Service Manager for a major bank corporation in 2005 to be a stay home mother to her 3 children. Since baking is truly her passion, Lisa decided to put that passion to work for her! From 2005-2008 she began managing her home-based custom occasion cakes business in Kansas City. It was obvious in every cake she made for her clients that she loves what she does. Daniel, her husband and co-owner of Cupcake A La Mode, has worked in the Hospitality Industry for 20 years. With a combined Customer Service Industry experience of over 30 years between the two of them and Lisa's passion for baking the perfect cake for every occasion, they are destined for success!
Unlike many cupcakeries, Cupcake A La Mode will serve primarily chocolate, vanilla and red velvet cupcakes (and the occasional signature flavor of the month). With REAL ingredients like buttermilk, sweet cream butter, madagascar bourbon vanilla and belgian dark chocolate, these very basic cake flavors will taste anything BUT basic! Inspired by Lisa's love for pound cake, you will find Cupcake A La Mode's cake to be very different than their competitors'- rich, velvety, buttery and very dense! Paired with one of their signature, made-from-scratch buttercreams and delectable toppings such as gourmet cookies or candies made by award winning chocolatiers, these "basic" little cakes immediately transform into something much more irresistible. Cupcake A La Mode will also serve small custom occasion cakes, gluten free cupcakes, coffees and teas and have a boutique style retail area as well. Since baking fresh daily and donating leftovers plays such a big part in their business model, Cupcake A La Mode will occasionally sell-out early. Pre-ordering or stopping by early in the day will ensure that your cravings are satisfied!
Lisa and Daniel are taking a very popular concept and refining it. Cupcake A La Mode will not be focusing mostly on take-out but rather encouraging their customers to sit and relax with their fabulous gourmet cupcake in their boutique style cafe.
The first Cupcake A La Mode opened in Kansas City Jan 2009 with plans for national expansion by 2013.
